Meeting Fifteen: 22 November 2008

It is a Saturday so our team dragged ourselves to SMU to meet up for FYP meeting. We needed to complete our data recording as well as compile all our results to a single excel sheet so that we could do up our graphs. We managed to collate all our survey results.

However, we did encounter a few problems while recording the data. Some of the surveyors did not complete our survey. They left out a few questions. Some even did not complete the whole page of questions.

Secondly, they did not understand our survey questions properly. Certain questions require them to rank the options, but they ticked the options instead.
'
It was quite disappointing for the team as we thought we could have about 150 survey results. However due to the "spoiled" surveys, we only took 120 samples which were done properly.

Meeting Thirteen: 18 November 2008

Event: Home Décor Exhibition

Venue: Singapore Expo

I did not go for this week’s survey collection as I have classes to attend on Tuesdays.
According to my team, they went to Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Centre to conduct survey. However, the conference has not started and the organisers are still doing preparation.

They then headed to Singapore Expo to conduct survey at the exhibition. There, they managed to complete all our samples and we were ready to compile and collate our survey results the next day (Wednesday).

Meeting Eight: 7 October 2008

Today we met up with Chronos to discuss our Survey Questions. Chronos mentioned that there were quite a few changes that we needed to make in order “perfect” our survey questions.

He says that our survey needed relation to our topic. Initially, he questioned us about asking the profile of the surveyors (gender, age, no. of times they attend conferences). We explained to him and he said that as long as we explain and understand the reasons behind the questions it is alright with him.

Chronos mentioned that there are certain questions that we do not need to include as they are pretty redundant and we cannot get analysis out it.

We needed to edit the survey and send him the new survey questions asap as we need to attend upcoming events the following weeks.

Meeting Six: 17 September 2008

During today's meeting, we had to make a few amendments in our Literature Review. Chronos had a look at it and he said the format of our Literature Review is wrong. We needed to include our reason for the data and information that we included in our review. Thus, we needed to add in our purpose in it.

As mentioned, I was assigned to find information about Organic Food. I went to quite a few websites to ensure that the information I got is correct and substantial.

I researched about:

· What is organic food?
· Why is organic food expensive?
· Benefits of organic food
· Farming methods of organic food
· Other alternatives of organic food

I feel that all this information is needed to help me in understand our team green concept better and how it can be used to convince our event participants.

Meeting Five: 10 September 2008

Agenda: Literature Review

The literature reviews involves researching on the certain area or a topic and gather as many findings as possible and summarize them into a review. We are also need to see the relevance to our project. In our case, we need to research on our chosen green concepts and understand them well enough. We split up our workload as it is more efficient and less time consuming. It allows each of us to focus on a topic and we could share it amongst another after we are done.

Jesslyn: General overview on environmental statistics
This allows us to understand the overall situation of the environment. From the review, we are able to identify the pressing issues on the environment. With this, we can understand the why we are choosing our concepts and why we are doing a topic on the environment.

Nison: Conference Efforts
Suntec City Convention Centre is one of the venues that hold many major conferences and events. So, it is important to know if they are spending any efforts to help protect the environment. By knowing what their initiatives are, it will help us in coming up with solutions and maybe improve on it.

Kelye: Waste Management
As one of the concepts in our project, it is important to understand how waste is managed and how waste management could be incorporated in to events.

Sam: Paperless
It is important to understand about paper wastage as we need to know the amount of paper consumption as how using too much paper is taking a toll on the environment.

Sham: Organic Food
Huge amount of food is wasted during conferences. We know that food needs lots of insecticides and chemicals to ensure that they grow properly. However, these chemicals are harmful to the environment. We need to understand if organic food how environmentally friendly organic food is and how switching to organic food will benefit the environment.

Each of us was allocated a section and we did our research in the school and on the internet. We brought back our work and decided to do more research at home before compiling them and sending it to Chronos.

Meeting Three: 5 September 2008

I wasn’t present for this meeting due to floorball IG commitments. My team updated me about what Chronos said.
1. Chronos gave his comments on our proposed project outline. It was too vague, mainly our objectives. Our concept was also not mentioned much.

2. Chronos also mentioned that we should include our timeline in our project outline. It will enable us to plan our work well and guide us along the days so that we would be on schedule and assign the appropriate tasks for the different days that we meet up

3. He also mentioned that we are to set out dates and times that we are suppose to meet him to discuss about our project.

4. What we needed to do that for the project was to:

a) Go down to the STB Tourism Court for Enquiry
b) Search for events via the STB calendar from the STB website
c) Local pro-green events activists websites
d) Go to events itself to get surveyors

Initially, the whole team decided to do the project outline together but it proved to be time consuming. After that, we separated our work so that it would be more efficient for the team.

We each completed our part of the project outline and Jesslyn compiled and vat the whole thing. This framework will help us to keep track of our progress on our project. Hopefully, with the help of this, we are able to be consistent and not lose track on the objectives of our project.

This project outline was send to Chronos for evaluation.
